Broiled Maple Soy Glazed Salmon Fillets With Toasted Sesame Seeds

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 4 salmon fillets, 1 1/4 inches thick
  • Salt and ground black pepper
  • 3 teaspoons sesame seeds, toasted

Stuff to Know Before Broiling

Prepare the glaze while the broiler heats.

Try to find fillets of similar size (about 6 ounces each) for even cooking times. Thinner fillets will cook more quickly and may not glaze well in the oven.

This recipe works with both skin-on and skinless fillets.

Heat and Prep the Broiler Pan

Adjust the oven rack to about 6 inches below the broiler element, then preheat the broiler. Line the bottom of a broiler pan with foil, place the broiler rack on top, and spray the rack with vegetable oil spray to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Glaze

Combine the maple syrup and soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer until the mixture thickens and reduces to about 4 tablespoons, taking approximately 3 to 5 minutes. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the glaze in a separate bowl for serving.

Season and Glaze the Salmon

Dry the salmon fillets with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper. Arrange the salmon skin-side down on the prepared broiler rack, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Brush half of the glaze (excluding the reserved portion) evenly over the tops of the fillets.

Broil the Salmon

Broil the salmon for 10 to 12 minutes, or until it is mostly opaque with a slight translucency in the center. Midway through broiling, brush the fillets again with the remaining glaze.

Finish with Reserved Glaze and Garnish

Drizzle the reserved glaze over the cooked salmon and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds before serving.
