Weeknight Burger Bowls

This is a burger in a bowl with all of the toppings you want – lettuce, pickles, cheese, onions, and fries – plus a quick burger sauce that tastes like the real deal. It’s ready in ~30 minutes and uses one skillet for the meat.

Ingredients (~6 servings)

Burger Sauce

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp honey mustard or Dijon
  • 2 tsp dill pickle brine
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Burger Bowls

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (85/15 works great)
  • 6 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning
  • 21 oz frozen french fries (3/4 of a standard 28 oz bag)
  • Green leaf or romaine lettuce, torn or chopped (~6 big handfuls total)
  • Bagged coleslaw mix (~6 big handfuls total)
  • 6 slices yellow American cheese, chopped (or cheddar)
  • Thinly-sliced red onion, to taste
  • Dill pickle chips, to taste
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved, to taste

Make the Burger Sauce

In a bowl or jar, stir together 3/4 cup mayonnaise, 3 Tbsp ketchup, 1 1/2 Tbsp honey mustard, 2 tsp pickle brine, 3/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1/4 tsp black pepper.

Cover and refrigerate if making ahead – this can be done the day before.

Cook the Fries

Cook 21 oz of frozen fries according to the package directions.

I use an air fryer for speed since they cook in ~12-15 minutes and fit in one batch at this amount.

If you’re baking them in the oven, start them first thing before anything else – they’ll take ~20-25 minutes at 425F.

Brown the Ground Beef

While the fries cook, add 1.5 lbs ground beef to a large skillet set over medium heat.

Break the beef into crumbles as it cooks.

Once all of the beef is in small pieces, add 6 dashes Worcestershire sauce and 1 1/2 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning.

Continue to cook and crumble until the beef is fully-cooked and browned – this takes ~10-12 minutes total.

Blot or drain away excess fat if you want.

Build the Bowls

Toss equal amounts of lettuce and coleslaw mix into each bowl – about 1 big handful of each per person.

Top with the cooked beef, 1 slice chopped cheese per bowl, sliced red onion, pickle chips, halved cherry tomatoes, and fries.

Finish with a heavy drizzle of the burger sauce.

The fries will start to soften from the heat of the beef and the sauce – if you want them crispy longer, serve them on the side instead of in the bowl.
